This 1886 oil on canvas painting is distinguished by its flawless color and brushwork blending. Van Gogh painted a vase with a bouquet of vividly colored blue cornflowers, bright scarlet poppies, and creamy white marguerites against a lightly painted blue backdrop. The thin vase is set on a vaguely defined shimmering surface and has an attractive arrangement of colorful flowers. Throughout his brief career, Van Gogh frequently returned to still life and floral subjects. Vase with Daisies and Poppies was one of many floral vases paintings he created in June.
