Vincent van Gogh painted Still Life: Vase with Pink Roses at Saint-Rémy in 1890. When he created this piece, Van Gogh was set to leave the Saint-Rémy asylum and travel to the sleepy village of Auvers-sur-Oise, which is located outside of Paris. Van Gogh's choice of flowers as his subject and the colours he employed reflect the optimism he had at the time about his future in both this and the similarly-dated Pink Roses. The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., is the owner of the painting.
